The New Baby

It’s May, and DANGER’S KISS has arrived at last!

If you haven’t rushed out to pick up your copy from the local bookstore, be sure to order it online. You can click through to Amazon by visiting my bookstore at www.sarahmckerrigan.com. Remember, a historical romance would make a nice, inexpensive Mother’s Day gift!

If you need more persuading, check out my new book trailer for DANGER’S KISS! The video is posted on the front page of my website, www.sarahmckerrigan.com.

Here’s a hilarious plot summary by one reviewer at Jandy’s Reading Room:
“Boy meets girl. Girl hates boy; boy hates girl. They get to know one another; Soon, boy loves girl; girl loves boy. Then girl is accused of murder and boy must hang girl...wait a minute... What?”

She follows up with, “...how difficult it must be to be the executioner who everyone is made to fear. McKerrigan does an excellent job rounding out the role and the man in it...Desiree's strong, independent character is believable...She had to live by her wits and learned to use men's desires rather than be dominated by them...escapism to satisfy the romantic.”

Meanwhile, more terrific reviews keep coming in...

“DANGER’S KISS is an exciting medieval romantic suspense starring two opposites in love. Whereas she is all con artist and he is all law enforcer, their romance makes for strange bedfellows yet each realistically compromises their ‘values’ for the other. Fans will appreciate Sarah McKerrigan's fine thirteenth century tale as Desiree takes over Nicholas’ home, cat, and heart.” Harriet Klausner, Genre Go Round Reviews

“Desiree and Nicholas both are sexy, interesting, and atypical characters whose unique story will enthrall readers, and McKerrigan’s depiction of thirteenth-century Kent excites the imagination.” Diana Tixier Herald, Booklist

It seems while I was busy preparing for the release of DANGER’S KISS, my heroine Desiree got herself up to a bit of mischief at my website. Visit www.sarahmckerrigan.com and scroll down to “Desiree’s Unbelievable Magic Trick” to see if you can outwit the clever wench!

If you live nearby, come see me at the USS Highland Games at Costa Mesa, California on Saturday, May 24th, at the Orange County Fairgrounds. I’ll be signing books at the Tea & Sympathy booth all day and would love to chat with friends, new and old!

Congratulations to the final winner of my KNIGHT’S PRIZE sweepstakes—JUDY COX of Holden, Louisiana! Judy has won a unique and beautiful hand-thrown clay goblet from Reedley Clayworks!

Those of you who entered and didn’t win, don’t be discouraged--a new game’s afoot! Visit www.sarahmckerrigan.com and enter the DANGER’S KISS sweepstakes. The prize is a wooden treasure box just like the one in the book trailer, filled with a medieval surprise! Read a short excerpt from DANGER’S KISS, answer the simple question, and keep your fingers crossed.

Virtual hugs to everyone who buys, reads, and promotes my books, whether through word of mouth, hand selling in bookstores, or purchasing copies for friends and loved ones.
Your support is truly valued.

Happy Mother’s Day, and may you never underestimate the power of a mother’s love!

April Jests

I have an important announcement this month. After a wonderfully rewarding career as an author, writing and publishing eight novels since 2000, meeting some of you, the most delightful and loyal readers, through fan letters and at booksignings, I’ve decided that maybe it’s time for me to move on, so I’m going to start pursuing my lifelong dream of being an auditor for the IRS.

April Fool!

Actually, as long as colorful characters keep filling my head with adventures and demanding I tell their stories, I guess I’ll keep writing them down. And as long as you continue to enjoy them, I suppose the publisher will keep cranking them out. (Besides, I’m not so hot at taxes.)

For those of you counting, there’s only one more month till my new book, DANGER’S KISS, hits the shelves! I’ve got some very exciting news (and this is NOT an April Fool). Romantic Times BOOKClub, the leading romance book review magazine, gave me four and a half stars and a “Top Pick” recommendation!

Here’s a snippet of Kathe Robin’s review: “McKerrigan has crafted her tale like a bard’s ballad, capturing the era with rich detail and feisty characters. This compelling medieval action-adventure romance is all that McKerrigan’s readers desire.”

And here’s what Lucele Coutts of Novel Talk had to say: “In DANGER’S KISS, Sarah McKerrigan has really done it this time, as she tries to prove she is as daring as her characters, pitting the most unlikely pair together, expecting them to end their head-to-head combat and be at peace. So will she finally lose this one? Of course not! She is Sarah McKerrigan of the magic pen... From page one, this story will grab you, and keep you fiercely reading to the very last page. You cannot miss this one.”

If you’re still not inspired, go to www.sarahmckerrigan.com, click on Sarah’s Books on the left, then Danger’s Kiss. You can read an excerpt for yourself, and if you like what you read, pre-order the book right from my site (you’ll be buying it from Amazon).

While you’re visiting my website, be sure to take the new poll to choose your favorite Robin Hood movie!

It was grand seein’ all o’ ye at the Pomona Irish Faire last month! There won’t be any signings this month, but I’ll be back in “Faire form” in May.

Congratulations to the March winner of my KNIGHT’S PRIZE contest—KIMMY LANE of Portageville, Missouri! Kimmy has won a unique and beautiful hand-thrown clay goblet from Reedley Clayworks! There are only two goblets left until the DANGER’S KISS contest starts with a new prize, so if you’d like a chance to win, sign up at www.sarahmckerrigan.com and keep your fingers crossed!

Virtual hugs to everyone who buys, reads, and promotes my books, whether through word of mouth, hand selling in bookstores, or purchasing copies for friends and loved ones. Your support is truly treasured.

So do any of you have aspirations of quitting your job as an auditor for the IRS and writing novels? Here’s a fun little site where you can create your own historic tale, using characters from the Bayeux Tapestry: http://www.adgame-wonderland.de/type/bayeux.php

May all your April Fool’s jokes be harmless!

Average Everyday Heroes

Are you someone’s hero? Maybe you haven’t pulled anyone from a burning building lately. Or discovered a cure for cancer. Or overthrown an evil despot. Maybe no one’s erected a statute to you. But despite the names of “important figures” that history records, there are plenty of unsung heroes who walk among us.

That’s one reason I’ve chosen to let two ordinary heroes star in my next book, DANGER’S KISS! When it comes to medieval fiction, we’ve all read about lords and ladies and forced marriages for political gain, but what about the common folk who were free to marry for love?

In DANGER’S KISS, Desiree of Canterbury is a medieval scam artist, a thief who runs into trouble when she starts pulling her tricks in the shire of the fierce lawman, Nicholas Grimshaw. It’s sort of an Artful Dodger meets The Sheriff of Nottingham, and for a long while, Nicholas doesn’t know whether to kiss her or kill her. But while they’re sorting out their obvious conflict of interest, they can’t ignore the passion growing between them, which culminates in their joining forces to foil a nefarious noblewoman’s treacherous plot.

DANGER’S KISS was great fun to research and write! I strolled down medieval cobbled streets, cooked up a lot of pottage, and rubbed elbows with peasant re-enactors at Renaissance fairs. In fact, a wonderful magician called Silvermane showed me the sleight of hand Desiree uses in the book!

Intrigued yet? DANGER’S KISS comes out in May, but it’s available for pre-order now. Just go to my website, www.sarahmckerrigan.com, and click on Sarah’s Bookstore. (You’ll be buying it from Amazon.)

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day this month, I’ll be signing books at The Los Angeles County Irish Fair and Music Festival on Sunday, March 9th at the Pomona Fairplex in Pomona, California. Look for me at the Tea & Sympathy bookshop, and come prepared with your best blarney!

If you’re interested in becoming a genuine hero, visit www.kiva.org. There, you can make micro-loans of as little as $25 to people in Third World countries, who will invest the funds to start their own small businesses and repay the money, which you can then re-loan to someone else!

May you always be a hero to someone!
